@pragerjoneslaw: Protect your parenting time! ⏳ Set clear terms for extracurriculars in your parenting plan. #PragerJones #divorcelawyer #marriage #coparenting #parentingtips
So basically kids can’t participate in a team sport or in a regular activity because one parent will say no and the other will say yes that doesn’t make sense that is not best interest of the child

What's more important for children: participating in a sporting event or spending time with a parent they don't get to see often?

Or let’s put kids first and kids should have reasonable access to extracurriculars to develop with the rest of their peers. It’s unreasonable that simply because parents are divorced kids are limited with their childhood experiences. Disgusting actually. I personally think the parent refusing to allow them to participate in extracirrulars are alienating from them potentially seeing the other parent on their parenting time and also interfering with regular childhood experiences. The crazy thing is if the other parent participates the non agreeing parent has a right to show up on their nonparenting days. People just put the kids first and stop the pettiness. Let your kid have as normal as a childhood as possible. Life is tough as it is.

I love how a majority of the people posting in this don’t agree with him. Yet he is absolutely right. It was the first thing that my ex went after when we separated. She would sign all three of our kids up for different extracurriculars and they spanned the whole week and every weekend for 6 or 7 months out of the year. It was about control, even to the point she manipulated our kids to say they wanted to do things they weren’t even interested in.

A lot of the time the parent have no control over when the game time or practice time is. The parent that complain about this is a parent who doesn’t have their child’s best interest as a piority. Or probably doesn’t want to contribute financially so they use that as an excuse.

that's dumb as shit. why would a parent say they won't take a child to extracurricular activities just because it's "their time"??? immature!

My daughters soccer teammates dad refuses to bring his daughter to the games on his day. It’s so sad for her because she gets really upset when she’s forced to miss playing because her dad doesn’t want to bring her

Unfortunately it doesn’t quite work like that. All extracurriculars will fall on both parents time. You can’t schedule activities at all if one parent doesn’t allow for it - that isn’t ok

my little girl just start fall ball again. half the practice and games fall on my time and the other on the mother's time. I dont see it as messing with my time. its for my daughter, if she is having fun learning and playing softball, I'm good with it.

Right or they schedule trips, and or sign up kids without even telling other parent and then expect the other parent to pay

so the primary parent has to sacrifice their time with the child to rake the child to doctor appointments, school activities, Extracurricular activities, let them have a life and have playdates or just hang out either Friends during "their time" which then TAKES AWAY from their time as they are doing all this extra stuff for the kids to give them the best life possible but the parent that doesn't have primary care gets to have full one on one time not interrupted cuz they cry I dont get enough time with my kids... well the primary parent works 9 hrs a day takes them to their appointments during the week and meetings with whatever needed add on their activities and friendships so how much "time" we primary parents actually get with the kids

Why is it always the parent not working and collecting child support always signing kids up for extra activities

I don't hear this guy saying that parents should be selfish with their parenting time. I hear him saying that some parents weaponize extracurricular activities as a dirty trick. In a situation where one parent makes a unilateral decision about extracurriculars and does not consult the other parent, extracurriculars become a weapon even though they may be good for the kid. an example would be scheduling an extracurricular like karate 45 minutes away from the other parents home 2 to 3 days a week.

This is not in line with the child’s best interest, and the courts will quickly overrule. Courts want to see that kids are involved in extracurricular that they were during the marriage and any others they choose. It is up to the parents to accommodate these activities and if one cannot transport or be there then the other should regardless of who’s parenting time it is.
