I went to Dubai and Abu Dhabi for the first time this year. Vibes were not it for me. Very fake and dystopian. There was just something off about it. I hope you enjoy it though.

I’m truly grateful to pay taxes in Australia — the country that welcomed me, protected my family before anywhere else would, gave me my first salary when I arrived, and became my one and only home

1. Valid reason. UAE has very low crime rates. 2. Low taxes exasperate wealth and income inequality. You do pay no income tax in Dubai but you will pay around 30-50% of your income in rent because it’s expensive, you will pay for your kids’ private school, you will pay for medical insurance (unless your company pays for it but then things like dental is often times not covered but is super expensive), if you lose your job by any chance, good luck surviving because the “50%” tax you pay funds the social system. Unless you are in the top 5% of Australia, you will end up paying more for everything than you would in taxes. People in high tax countries always take these for granted. 3. Valid reason. 4. Sun all year round but it’s not the pleasant 25°C sun that you want. It’s the 40-45°C (even 50°C+ during peak summer) sun with coastal humidity. You will get sweaty in 5 mins of stepping outside. 5. Valid since you have Australian passport. UAE is an extremely racist country and your passport determines your income and opportunities more than your qualifications. As Australian passport holders, you benefit from the discrimination.

Yes, you don't give 50% of your salary but you don't get free healthcare and free education for your kids either. Good quality healthcare and education can be very expensive in Dubai, Most people can't raise a family with an average salary. Obviously Australians would get better paying jobs due to their nationality but still Australia offers more in the long run compared to Dubai. And in Dubai at the end of the day if you ain't working you need to leave

Catch ya. Enjoy all thoserules in Dubai. You might not pay tax, but you will be less privileged in others areas. Such as your freedom.
