216 days ago, I walked into rehab and was given a task: find some meaning and purpose in my recovery. To be honest, I struggled with that. I’ve achieved a lot in my life, and I’ve been a mum since I was 17 — always putting everyone else first. So when it came time to think about what I wanted, I felt a bit lost. As I started exploring new hobbies and interests, I realised something quite big: for all the times I’ve said “I’m an independent woman, I don’t need anyone,” there was still one major thing I couldn’t do on my own — drive. I couldn’t just get in a car and take myself anywhere. That hit me hard. So I set myself a goal. When I left rehab, I was going to learn to drive. A week after I got out, I booked my first lesson. I went for my first test in June — and I failed. At the time, it felt like a punch to the gut. I took it really personally and nearly gave up. But in hindsight, I wasn’t ready. I was still early in recovery, trying to manage my ADHD and adjust to a lot of emotional changes. That fail wasn’t the end — it was part of the process. And today… 2nd time around I passed! I got back up, kept going, and passed my driving test. I gave myself a target and I did it. This isn’t just about a licence. It’s about proving to myself that I can do hard things. That I am capable. That I am independent in the truest sense. The last few weeks have been rough — I’ve felt negative about life and just… low. But today gave me the lift I needed. I’m proud of myself, and I’m buzzing. This is more than a win — it’s a reminder of how far I’ve come. If you’re in recovery, struggling with your mental health, or just feeling stuck — please know that growth doesn’t always come in big, dramatic moments. Sometimes it looks like failing your first driving test and showing up again anyway. Sometimes it’s about taking back a little piece of your independence, one step at a time. Progress isn’t perfect. It’s messy, emotional, and often uncomfortable. But it’s possible. You are capable of so much more than you think — even on your worst days. Set a goal. Make it meaningful to you. And no matter how long it takes or how many times you fall, just keep going. You’re not starting over. You’re starting from experience. And that matters. #fyp #recoverytok #target #keepgoing #proud
