Yeah, he made a silly, costly, uneducated error. But let’s not forget, people like this looking to provide a comfortable retirement for themselves are not the problem. It’s the huge corporations buying a multitude of properties that need to be stopped.

Investors deserve to lose their money. They’re the one that artificially drive up the market.

I was in Toronto, maybe six years ago and I could not believe all the construction they were tearing down perfectly good buildings to put up even bigger apartment buildings and condos. Anybody with a brain could’ve saw this coming.

Imagine paying 800k for 600 square feet. It’s only Toronto - not NYC my friend. Mistakes were made

He's not wrong about the shoeboxes though. Developers need to start building dwellings that people actually enjoy living in.

I’m sure the conversation would be different if the value had doubled. Super not sad for him.

He is the face of the housing speculation, not immigrants or foreign investors. Domestically grown speculators are the reason.

I have no sympathy but more for the city officials who keep approving and builders who keep building concrete jungles of overpriced shabby units - all for greed. And don’t forget the silly younger generation thinking it is ok to pay it

The reason why a non-livable condo was priced at $884k is because investors like him wanted to profit from younger Canadians charging rents that could cover all costs. Because of ‘investors’ like him, developers started to build smaller and smaller units never intended for end user. I dealt with such a landlord my first rental unit in Canada and then he was shocked when I decided to move out as soon as the one year lease was up.
