My advice to anyone with an avoidant ex - your self respect has to be bigger than your empathy for them. Thinking back, I was very present and supportive and doing my best as my ex and I was in the midst of deciding where we were headed during the break up, and my main concerns were how he was feeling and doing/coping rather than myself. It was self abandonment and I would never do it again. Turns out months later with more clarity that piece of work is really quite worthless and I had no idea why I was ok with things and who he was. Pretty sure it was just because I pitied him and felt sorry for his pathetic ass with this saviour complex of mine. I came up with alot of logical explanations for him and used it to overlook his inadequacies and behaviour. Truth is, a loser will always be a loser if that’s who he is deep down. Don’t bother trying to change anyone. Find someone who you can grow with together and help nurture parts of you with you. Leave that little bitch asap, your future self would thank you.
