Bruno Fernandes suffers from this a lot too i think— his game has matured a lot in the last few yrs and he’s always been rewlly well-respected by staff & teammates as a leader, but he’ll always be called too erratic, too emotional/angry, hero-ball, not a good captain etc. the thing is narratives like this don’t allow room for change/growth, kind of like when your family constantly sees you as you were 5 yrs ago rather than now.

I agree with you, and as a liverpool fan, yeah, I'm not gonna be the one to defend him now, but it's almost a bit sad to see no one is backing him anymore-- I do think he went to madrid cause he thought he'd get that recognition playing there, so it is a bit ironic if it never happens anyway he just loses the only people who were pushing the narrative the other way
