They were heavily under industrialized and at the time were waiting for the western powers to make a move first on Germany so it wouldn’t be seen as a unprovoked attack Stalin knew the west was hesitant on attacking Germany and so if Germany and the ussr was the fight first it would be likely that Germany at the time would be back by the allies who also BTW made several non aggression pacts with Germany making the polish non aggression pact the last

Conventional wisdom but it’s wrong. Soviets were hard campaigning for 3 weeks already. Poles rose up seeing the Germans evacuate til Hit decided to reinforce (like Budapest). Soviets got to the suburbs then stalled out w/ fierce German counters.

I feel like there are some things that are left unsaid in this video. Poles decided to start an uprising because Soviets almost reached Warsaw, that's true. They launched an uprising because they wished to receive the Soviets as hosts, aware that they would not grant Poland independence, and treat Poland just like Germans - imprison us. In the course of the war, the Polish underground movement was reorganized so that it could turn from fighting against the Germans to resisting the Soviets. The Russians tried to suppress the Polish underground in various ways after war - check Obława Augustowska/Augustów roundup, Proces Szesnastu/Trial of the Sixteen etc.
