That probably wasn't silicone 😭 Silicone melts at over 800 °F

For next time…items can go from cold to hot very quickly but not the other way around, when you put cold water on such a hot piece of glass or stone it can cause it to explode or create weak points and cracks 😅 that being said I highly recommend metal trivets I’ve had the same ones for over 15 years and have never had an issue

I put down a silicone one and then put a normal pot holder over the top of it, keeps the intense heat off my counters that way.

i have the ikea silicone mats and it survived being INSIDE the 500° oven for about 5 minutes before we realized it was still on the bottom of the pot (wasn’t stuck to the dutch oven, it just had water on it so it like suctioned to it and we just didn’t notice lol). happened 5 years ago and other than some black marks it’s totally functional still

I had a silicone mat that started to melt a little from a cast iron pan during seasoning. I switched to those sort of rope style ones and those started to melt too. now I use bamboo ones
