@wearethehawleys: Hands-on math just clicks differently. In this lesson we practiced adding three-digit numbers in expanded form using wooden place value blocks for the hundreds, tens, and ones. My son could build both numbers, add them piece by piece, and actually see how place value works. For many kids, writing can make math harder than it needs to be. When handwriting mistakes slow them down, it doesn’t mean they don’t understand the concept. That’s why I’ll often write the problems in the workbook for my kids. They get a clear record of their work to look back on—without letting writing frustrations get in the way of mastering the math skill. Using math manipulatives + workbook practice is such a powerful way to help kids understand place value and addition. #homeschoolers #homeschoolmath #formerteacher
This is unironically what my 4th grade class is struggling with right now

There’s absolutely nothing worse you can do for your kid education wise than homeschool them.

Speaking as someone who runs a math only tutoring center, please don't teach him to add ur subtract using expanded form. Do borrowing and carrying instead

Why are you writing for him? He’s also saying it’s 300-13 so he doesn’t actually know this skill.

Can you show how you add numbers that end up with a carry-over? Like 674+868?

This is a Montessori material. Engineered by Maria Montessori. Look up the verbiage on presenting this lesson. It all works together 😊

I'm a first grade teacher and previously taught at a Montessori School so I have this material but I haven't figured out how to use it in my classroom. we do two digit addition at the end of the year and I think this will really help my students see the adding of the different place values once they're ready to move beyond the base 10 blocks. as another bridge to the abstract. previously we've moved from manipulatives to numbers on paper which about 75% of my kids can do after they've worked with the manipulatives but that 25% I've just had stay with them manipulatives for longer and I think this will really help them. thank you for sharing!
