@the_sick_aquarist: Bettatok…let’s talk about it. Bettatok is a great place to find other betta keepers and to learn about proper betta care, but it requires a THICK skin when you’re new. The feedback can be excessively harsh and feel like an attack. There’s good reason for it though, a vase might look better than a cup, but in reality it isn’t. First and foremost, a betta need filtration. Unstable water parameters will seriously disable a fish and eventually kill it, regardless of how planted the tank is. To fish, water is their air. We all know how bad air quality can effect our health, it’s the same thing with water quality for fish. The space that a betta takes up in the wild accounts to about a 30 gallon long tank at home. Five gallons is functional, because bettas in the store are very different from bettas in the wild, but they still need the space to swim and to function as fish, not as decoration. Lastly, how much prettier is a nice, well set up tank than a fish alone in an empty vase, or a vase with minimal plants?
