Sue. It’s false advertising where the buyer could have reasonably assumed what the seller what adverting was as listed and not a total fabrication. You’ll win in small claims if the UK laws are anything simaikr to USA ones, and you shouldn’t even need a lawyer just proof he tried to deceive you and and hour or two of looking at UK legal code

So in case you don’t know: By UK law landlords are not allowed to hold the security deposit, it has to be held by a third party whose role is to arbitrate disputes, for which it sounds like you’d have a good case. If your landlord had broken this law they have to repay you 4x the deposit.
