You can titanium coat any of those drill bits I know cause I used to do it. As the titanium will increase the tool life if used correctly by about 10,000 operations, cause it also increases the lubricity and reduces fraction which reduces heat and also keeps the cutting edge sharper.

My Dad worked for Cleveland Twist Drill in Cleveland. The cobalt bits were the best. Some I have are over 50 years old and they go through steel like butter.Cleveland Twist drills were excellent quality in the day

Are there better bits than that like say your working on your truck and have to drill out a bolt or drill through your truck frame?

What's hot now though is the snap in type for your yellow quick connect drill motors

You need to pilot first, as big or larger than the flat on the tip. Use tools properly and they will last.

The key skill is how to sharpen them. I’m almost there.

Agree 100%. Just be careful with the smaller sizes. they'll snap off if you push them to hard.

Cobalt is good for stainless steel when used with coolant or cutting fluid. Use slower rpm. Keep cutting. Don’t dwell or you’ll work harden the material. Then you’ll have a bad day

hss bits aren't carbon. they're high speed steel, much harder and more durable

also learn the proper speed necessary for each bit to function at it's peak performance.

With the split tip cobalt , you’re still going too fast. I’ve been drilling and aircraft sheet metal for 40 years. Once you burn a tip by going too fast it’s all over and you need another bit. Only takes one second to burn it.
