Why are people getting so annoyed when you try to make fantasy creatures follow real world logic in case they existed? You're not killing their grandma

"covered in scales" like a pangolin!
"the slit eyes" like cats!
"favor heat sources" pretty much any animal that's not actively built for cold places will favor heat sources
"lay eggs" platypus's do that last I checked
"wings are mainly their skin and flesh" so are bats!
"people call them lizard as an insult" I've been called a lizard as an insult that ain't special.
anyway what I'm saying is dragons might actually be mammals and that's what I've built my story's dragons off of

Dragons are 100% reptiles. Which is why I hate seeing fur on dragons, unless it’s some kinda ice dragon that lives in extremely cold areas

Sapphire :
Reptiles and birds do not share a common ancestor. Reptiles split off millions of years before dinosaurs were even a thought. Dinosaurs are reptiles in the same way apes are monkeys. Also, one of the biggest reasons for them to be avians of some sort is the hollow bones. A dragon at its size likely wouldn't be able to fly no matter what, but the advanced system of pneumatic and air sacs and hollow bones in both avian and non avian dinosaurs would certainly help. Descending from a dinosaur would still make it a reptile.

The only domesticated animals are birds and alot of birds people think are domesticated aren't. For example parrots are wild animals not domesticated. Pigeons and chickens are domesticated.

just because they look like the larger grouping of reptiles doesn't mean they couldn't have evolved to be social and tameable like some birds.

I personally believe that dragons are there own taxon, like mammals or birds are. I know this isn’t very likely, but it’s more likely then them being a dinosaur

His reasonings are just so peak as a fellow nerd seeing him defend his work like this gives me joy except my brain power goes to fictional sciences while his go to real world science and maths and biology into fictional worlds

to say reptiles dont form bonds with others or even people is also wrong. people really misunderstand reptiles as some sort of bio machine that has no feelings. they can be very fond of people and can learn to trust a person.

Caiden🐉 :
All of this is true except for the part on taming reptiles can be domesticated and reptiles do form meaningful social bonds with people especially the more intelligent ones such as monitors tegus birds certain turtles and pythons and while it is harder to get a reptile to tolerate interaction and to want to interact with human than it is for mammals it’s still very possible and it opens up the possibility to have characters try and steal dragon eggs since it’s easiest to socialize a reptile when it’s had interaction since birth
