I told family there in 1984 it's not pretty to cross the border, you get on a bus at checkpoint, Charlie. And dodge. the obstacles that the East Germans put on The Bridge. at the end of the bridge you go to like a big parking lot and order off the bus and order to stand on the white line with your passport and a german officer with 2 guards looks you up and down and looks at your passport picture to see if you match . as this is going on the bus you came in on is getting the once over with dogs and mirrors under the bus, dogs go in the bus with guards and then they let you all back on the buss to go. it's not pretty in the east back then buildings where like they were in 1945 still close to the wall my trip to east Berlin glad it's not like that now

I tried to explain to my family that no restriction sign basically a white sign with grey lines crossing from one end to the other diagonally and they were like you have to wait for that sign. I’m like oh yes, cause the polzie they are worse than smoky and the bandit.
