I’ve had this mindset since I was a child. People don’t seem to understand when I say I don’t really care what others think. You can really achieve this mindset and your life will be life changing. Trust me

A few ways that hEDS/HSD have affected me personally ⬇️ ✔️headaches of a disabling intensity that would last for days at a time with face pain (I would literally just lie in a dark room with a pillow on my face waiting for them to end. I don’t know how I got through those years in hindsight😔) ✔️chronic joint pain especially as a child/young adult when my symptoms were at their worst😭 ✔️lots of “rare” health things (that probably aren’t actually rare in people with hEDS/HSD), including latent chronic osteomyelitis after my jaw surgery, an overbite so severe that it literally needed surgery in the first place, a bunch of “rare” growth plate fractures, and probably some other stuff I can’t recall right now ✔️gut pain of a disabling intensity (I also once went 3 weeks without 💩 when I was 15, and OF COURSE I wasn’t even referred to a gastro 🤷‍♀️) ✔️normalisation of serious health issues in my family (including Crohn’s disease because apparently it’s normal in our family to have a “sensitive gut”🤦‍♀️) ✔️eye surgery (ICL) due to my high myopia + other eye issues (more common in hEDS)👀 ✔️concern about ever being pregnant 🤰 (because although people with hEDS/HSD can have great pregnancies, it absolutely can complicate things and increases the risk of some serious complications) ✔️stress about being able to work long-term💼 ✔️the constant worry of “if this weird symptom hEDS/HSD or is it something ‘serious’?” 🫣 So I know I look fine (and to be clear: I have a GREAT life and I’m grateful for every moment of the quality of life that I currently have🙏), but the knowledge that I’m at risk ofr a bunch of potentially serious health issues weighs on me❤️‍🩹 Does anyone here have any tips for how they navigate coping with uncertainty? My personal favourite strategy (and what I try to support patients with🫶) is learning as much as I can about everything to do with hEDS/HSD, because it’s my firm belief that knowledge is power❣️ But sometimes tbh when I feel overwhelmed I need to just couch rot and try to decompress (my favourite way to relax is videogames) LMK your tips⬇️ PS I’ll put my favourite resources in the comments for learning❣️ #hypermobileehlersdanlossyndrome #hypermobilityspectrumdisorder
