Sir I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Plus I believe it is very efficient towards moral boosting. They look forward to hearing from their loved ones knowing that every thing is okay. It’s a good thing

In my opinion when you are in Boot Camp is good to check up on your wife and your kids how they’re doing

I appreciate the Marines for still implementing this. It definitely makes them focused and gets them ised to the idea of not having anything electronic during war time!

it was like 30 minutes in Jackson and honestly. it distracted me. I feel the calls are more helpful for the loved ones at home than the recruits

cell phones kill training but let's make sure we have time to go watch the Dodgers play the Giants.

Ik people who “took care” of their bills and left BCT with overdue bills due to withdrawal errors. Checking your phone once a week isn’t that serious.

Army mom here. My son just left for basic a week ago. He was allowed to call me this past Sunday but only got 15 minutes. Yes, they should be able to call loved ones. I was so happy to hear his voice. He’s struggling right now…. First time away from home, culture shock etc. I was able to give him the motivation that he needed and help him reframe his thinking. By the time he got off the phone with me his moral was boosted and he was refocused on the task at hand. I understand the need to tear them down to build them back up, I’m not questioning the process, but denying them access to loved ones who can provide them with motivational support is probably not the best thing.

There’s a reason why the U.S.M.C is the number one branch of all branches that has the highest retention problem. Not because of lack of phone usage at BCT but seeing how they are not seeing or understanding the very questions they ask is why.

Phones are the biggest distraction. He said it himself they tend to focus on the phones and are use to texting daily. If they need to focus and get to graduation, take the phones away. Somewhere in the leadership they need to reevaluate this approach.
