After last year‘s wheelchair, Howl’s Moving Castle cosplay I wanted to try another beloved Studio Ghibli film. This is my Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind cosplay with a wheelchair Ohmu. I learned so many new skills making this cosplay, in particular working with EVA foam. The Ohmu is made of a hula hoop and bent fiberglass stakes covered in dremmel- edged EVA foam panels with foam clay accents and painted with Plasti Dip, drywall spray to texturize, green copper color shifting paint, and a black wash to weather. The eyes are made up of LED lights, white spray, paint, and plastic Christmas ornaments. The legs are foam curling rods, bent in half and hanging on a wire amateur to allow for free movement. The mandibles are three sizes of foam curling rods and are attached to toe socks for extra life-like effect. The dress is pattern by Sew Anastasia made of cotton jersey with an appliqué of the royalcrest. The scenes were finished with an overcast, stitch, and the hems kept neat but flexible with a twin needle, straight stitch. The appliqué was traced onto Flexi Fuse, cut to shape and attached to the garment with a dense zigzag. Teto is made from a pattern by Sew Desu Ne out of felt and quilt batting. The appliqué was hand stitched to the body. The ears were stiffened with fusible interfacing. The body was sewn on machine, stuffed with quilt batting for extra firmness, and then finished with a ladder stitch. I made the mask chain and earrings from glass beads, jump rings, lobster, clause, and gold chain. The wig was purchased online and steamed to remove creases and shininess. I love getting to bring one of my favorite characters to life and I’m looking forward to competing in the novice category in the Granite State Comic Con cosplay contest! #cos#cosplaye#wheelchairi#anime
