@kadenwatson11: Have you ever heard the phrase “jump the shark” when talking about TV shows? In case you didn’t know, I’m here to explain what it means and where it comes from! #whattowatch #kadensmovieclub #filmtok #tv #tvshows
Then of course there's the opposite; when a TV series "grows a beard".

Supernatural literally had an episode called Jump the Shark (S4,E19) when they suddenly introduced a third Winchester brother. There's plenty of debate in the fandom of when the show... lost its way... but I appreciate the cheeky nods to the audience like this that hinted the creators recognized things were getting ridiculous and kept on escalating

When they teased Glenn potentially dying but really he just hid underneath a dumpster in The Walking Dead I distinctly remember thinking "this is ridiculous the show jumped the shark".

Should've included Barry jumping over the shark in attested development

I can't believe the clip of Community where Troy yells "There was an episode of Happy Days where a guy *literally* jumped over a shark. And it was the *best* one!" wasn't included 🥺

This makes me feel old. I remember when this started. It was a website where you could vote on when different shows jumped the shark. One common jump the shark event was a baby suddenly aging 6 years.

The one thing I learned from this is that Mork & Mindy was a spin-off of happy days.

There is also growing the beard where a show comes of age. It's a reference to Riker who grew a beard and next generation got better.

Grey’s Anatomy has got to be the best example for me, but that could be because it’s just been on so long. Too many examples to choose from there, but the plane crash is an obvious one, but I’m sure there were plenty before that as well 😅

What’s it called when movies do that? Big PR, brand collaborations, star studded casts, etc… all for the movie to usually be bad

Not really Community's fault but the whole of Season 4 was a jump the shark moment

Excellent analysis per usual, but as a riverdale had jumped the shark a little earlier in my opinion when the cult leader harvesting organs in the local convent dressed in an Evel Knievel costume planned to escape to Mexico in a rocket.
