Fetch quests are valid though, obviously you wouldn’t do fetch quests in hollow knight, you play as an emotionless character in a 99% dead kingdom. Silksong has you playing as a spirited savior to a civilization that is still fighting for survival. She gains emotional connections to all of the characters by doing things for them, that’s the whole reason hornet chooses to do the true ending. 🙄🙄🙄

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t like Silksong as much as I like Hollow Knight. For me it’s a 7/10, not bad and yeah I like playing it, but it didn’t get that itch the same way Hollow Knight hit it for me. I also got sick of the quest pretty fast, why is half of my game locked behind do 10 random quest for random npc #647 that you literally won’t think about ever again. It’s boring, also, just in general the boss fights kinda felt stale. It wasn’t exciting or interesting, just oh no double damage and oh no the boss parries your attacks. It’s still insane to me that the only boss I genuinely liked was Fourth Chorus, everything else was just boring as hell after like the 3rd attempt at fighting it, or just unremarkable to me.

aesthetics are peak, everything else suffered. but like a lot of content. so 8-9 as a game. 9 if you value aesthetics, 8 if you value game play.

I personally settled on an 8/10. I gave the original a 10/10, and I enjoyed most of my time with Silksong, but it's nowhere near as good as the original in my opinion. It's absolutely worth $20, and it's a solid game all around, but after 7 years, multiple delays, and claims that it only took so long because the devs "just kept adding cool new stuff" over all those years, I expected alot more than what is effectively just Hollow Knight 1.5 with a neutered charm system and a ton of fetch quests. The story even feels like it follows most of the same basic beats as the original; just with a different character. Like I said before, it's a solid game all around, but I personally think that it's a rather far cry from what it could have and should have been in some ways.
