Lived in Chicago my whole life and Never got pick pocketed. Never got scammed by ticket scalpers or fake donations. Never seen a neighborhood that messed with anyone who came correct. If you mind yours you’ll be fine.

For pickpockets keep your purse in front of you in revolving doors and the guy who gets his foot stuck between the platform and the EL is setting up another guy to pickpocket or take your bags.

oh there are definitely pickpockets. Got my wallet stole at Aldis by a two man team. one distracted me the other stole my wallet dug in my purse took it. never got it back of course. Also on blueline once taking the grandkids to loop for Christmas sights, another two man team tried to get my husband but he sensed what was going on and spoke up loudly. So we have thieves everywhere
