Cleeve Hill is laid out in an “area of outstanding natural beauty” in the Cotswolds - that’s not an opinion - it’s an official title. Located at over 1000ft, its the highest point in the county which makes it a popular spot for hikers, bikers and sheep. The course here is largely untouched by modern architects and closely resembles ancient Scottish links. In fact, Old Tom Morris himself laid out the expansive routing in 1891 before Alister Mackenzie lent a hand 2 decades later. It’s easy to see what attracted Old Tom to the site. The limestone foundation drains the course naturally and a persistent wind prompts golfers to scan the horizon for sea, but we are far inland.
