I'm not on a side here and have no opinion on the punishment, but as someone who has dealt with Alzheimer's in my family it literally kills more than half of the brain. And the person sees crazy horrific things that aren't there. While you’re standing there telling the person you can't see it.

Why is any dementia patient sharing a room. That would be absolutely terrifying for a patient who can't remember anything to wake up with a stranger in the same room. When they can't remember they can get violent. Very odd set up of the nursing home regardless of what happened it seems like a foreseeable incident waiting to happen.
