I'm over 70 & have always been a free thinker. I have my dad to thank for that. But my brother became a right wing Christian steeped in all the current MAGA talking points. I just can't figure out why he was captured by the cult. We had such different outcomes.

as a brown gay man who returned back to a toxic machismo, immigrant, white majority town in Texas, rebeling through conversations with my younger cousins, siblings, and students has given me purpose and grounds me back to my roots. The religious, politcally conforming elders dislike my confrontations and correcting dangerous behavior. I'm one of the few, sometimes the only, truly safe space for the little ones. Change is inevitable and we must embrace it ✊🏽

When I speak to my son about politics, I tell him he will be disappointed by policies, politicians, and people on both sides, so ultimately, he has to decide what his core values are, and vote in accordance with them.

I love this. I’ve been reading the Bible to my kids because I want them to k ow what it says and be able to see the inconsistencies and problematic aspects for themselves instead of just taking my word for it. We also talk a lot about why some groups of people are marginalized and how we can help stop that from happening. As they are getting older, we are introducing more political discussions, as well.
