This verbal confrontation was filmed and distributed on various media channels in China, which of course chose to praise the Chinese side for his remarks. In videos published from the documented confrontation, Yan Xuetong, dean of the Institute of International Relations at Tsinghua University, one of the most prestigious universities in China, harshly criticizes while waving his finger and addressing Israel's military attaché in China, Brigadier General Elad Shoshan. Brigadier General Elad Shoshan was appointed in 2023 as commander of the "Merom Foxes" Brigade (Brigade 646), a reserve paratrooper brigade, which he also recently commanded in fighting in Lebanon against Hezbollah and in the Gaza Strip. Previously, he served as an operations officer at the Depth Command, commander of the Paran Brigade, deputy commander of the Paratroopers Brigade, and commander of Battalion 101. In response to Shoshan's statement that "Israel does its best not to harm innocent people," the Chinese dean passionately replied: "You have killed more than 70,000 civilians!" The Israeli military attaché remains unfazed and appears calm, saying: "That is not a fact, it is not true," but the Chinese researcher refuses to stop, saying: "Facts are not determined by you; the side that decides the facts is the international community. It is not decided by your government; your government has no legitimacy or right to decide what is a fact!" The Chinese researcher also said: "Your soldiers should have shot terrorists, not children, not women; when you shoot children and women, you lose the legitimacy to carry out any action." Later, the Chinese researcher suggests to the Israeli side "to turn to the UN, to work with the UN," and also says that Israel should agree to the establishment of a Palestinian state, and only then, he claims, it will be possible to work together with the Palestinians to fight terrorists. Additionally, in response to the military attaché's statement that the war will end when the terrorist organization returns all the hostages and gives up its weapons, the Chinese researcher says: "No, there is too much propaganda of this kind! No one believes it, it is too much! No one believes it except a few Israelis!" It should be noted that the words of the Chinese dean echo the official line of the Chinese regime regarding Israel, which claims that Israel must immediately cease the military operation in the Gaza Strip, accept the "two-state" solution, and that many innocent people are harmed by ZGF actions in Gaza.
