History of the Oppression of Palestinians (1948–2026)
1948 – Nakba and the Establishment of Israel
In this year, over 700,000 Palestinians were forced to leave their homes, and many killings were carried out by Zionist militias. This event marked the beginning of large-scale oppression of the modern Palestinian people.
1967 – The Six-Day War
Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem, reinforcing its control and imposing restrictions on the Palestinian population.
From 1948 to 2026
The suffering of Palestinians has continued uninterrupted, from the first generation who experienced the Nakba to the new generations today. This oppression is further reinforced by the support some countries continue to give to Israel, maintaining pressure on the Palestinian people.
Comparison with the FFI
Similar to the Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur (FFI), which was formed to resist Nazi occupation in France (March 1944) and labelled as “terrorists” by the Nazis, Palestinian resistance organisations have also been labelled as “terrorist” by several countries, including the European Union, despite their efforts to defend the Palestinian people.
Conclusion
The oppression of Palestinians is not only physical, through conflict and restrictions, but also political, as international support often favours Israel and limits aid to the Palestinian struggle. Palestinian resistance organisations have had to fight alone since 1948.
