The philosophers and poets of this land—Blaga, Noica, Eliade, Cioran, Ţuţea, Arghezi, Eminescu—did not chase abstraction for the sake of elegance. They wrestled with the essence of existence as if it were a stubborn ox refusing to plow. They spoke of mioritic space, of an undulating horizon that mirrors the human soul, of destiny accepted not with resignation but with a strange, luminous dignity.
