DAS IST DAF is a vinyl box set collecting key recordings by Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF), a German electronic band formed in the late 1970s. Known for their stripped-down, aggressive style, DAF played a central role in the development of genres like electropunk, early EBM (Electronic Body Music), and industrial. The group reduced to its core duo of Gabi Delgado-López and Robert Görl by 1981, marking a shift toward more minimal, rhythm-driven tracks with electronic instrumentation and politically charged vocals. The box set includes four original studio albums: Die Kleinen und die Bösen (1980), which blends experimental sounds with live recordings; Alles ist Gut (1981), the beginning of their more refined Virgin Records era; Gold und Liebe (1981), which expanded on their electronic approach; and Für immer (1982), their last album from that period. Also included are a 12" featuring remixes (Reworks), a 7" with two newly recorded tracks, and a 36-page booklet with archival photos and liner notes. A DAF-branded slipmat is also part of the package. Musically, the set charts the band’s transition from noisy, punk-adjacent electronics toward a more structured and danceable format, combining synthetic beats, sparse arrangements, and repetitive German lyrics.
