@holly_retro: Hopefully this might help a few of you save some consoles! Can’t believe I hadn’t heard/seen about this sooner!! #originalxbox #xboxoriginal #xboxclock #ogxbox #retroxbox
My problem is that I have been aware of this for some time but haven't bothered to fix it 🤣

I removed these capacitors from 3 of my xbox ogs, well glad I did it as one of the consoles it had already started leaking and was spilling onto the motherboard 😬I caught it just in time

I've checked mine recently and so far *touching wood* it seems to be working fine. I'm fully aware of this issue so when I get to send my Xbox to get it modified the clock capacitor will be replaced.

Yeah recapping is essential now and again with retro stuff a not a console but an Amiga is a great example of this

also depends on the revision, early models can just be removed but it will always nag you for the time unless you softmod it. later models if you remove the cap will not work unless you replace the cap again. replacing/removing isnt that hard but its the damage left behind thats the major issue 😅 if you need to know any faults or info on a system you arnt sure about i can give you a list thats stored in my brain gunk from all the repairs ive done 🤣

I had two O.G early one had all the caps ready to explode bulging but I also had bad traces from clock cap leaking so motherboard got scraped. I have another which is the last motherboard edition to be made and it doesn't suffer as much with bad caps.

1.0-1.4 board revisions NEED removing, they will and likely already have failed and leaked, they can simply be cut off. 1.6 boards have a higher quality cap that dont tend to leak when they fail but(1.6 only) will need to be replaced or bypassed.👍

Fexer Game&Tech :
and not only, the CPU capacitors also cause problems, the clock capacitor was resolved in version 1.6, if the Xbox is 1.6 there is no problem, but opening and performing maintenance is always recommended

LewAudio :
If you’re going to swap it, try and see if you can get a SMD capacitor or equivalent as if you go for another electrolytic, it’ll leak eventually again, whereas you don’t get it with the SMD 💜

Jason ⚒️ :
dont send it to restrosix its expensive and you can just use flush cutters and cut the capacitor out, no soldering required
