A devastating chain-reaction crash on Interstate 55 left three people dead and five others injured Sunday afternoon, after authorities say a truck driver failed to slow for traffic. The crash happened September 28 on northbound I-55 near Route M when a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia slammed into a Toyota Camry, triggering a pileup involving a total of eight vehicles, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Troopers said the truck driver, identified as 45-year-old Richard A. Holden of Louisiana, was “inattentive to slow-moving traffic” when he struck the Camry, setting off the deadly collision. Three people were killed in the wreck: • Kia Optima driver, 53, of Pevely, Missouri • Toyota Camry driver, 63, of Memphis, Tennessee • Camry passenger, 63, also from Memphis Five others were hurt, including a 34-year-old man from Barnhart and a 61-year-old woman from Rossville, Tennessee, both of whom sustained serious injuries. Holden was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter. The multi-vehicle pileup shut down all northbound lanes of I-55 for hours, with southbound traffic also slowed as first responders worked to clear the wreckage. Lanes did not reopen until about 10:20 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. #truckersoftiktok #truckdriversoftiktok #truecrimecommunity #truckingtruecrimepodcast #truecrime
