@andreintexas: Oktoberfest in Texas. Gibt es wirklich und macht Mega Spaß. Aber es kommt natürlich manchmal zu absurden Situationen. 😎🤠 Feiert ihr auch Oktoberfest? #usa #lebeninamerika #oktoberfest #texas

Austin Oktoberfest doesn't match Wurst fest in New Braunfels

For anyone in Central Texas, Wurstfest in New Braunfels is def a must do! Yeah, some of it is cheesy (it’s a festival) but it’s always lot of fun and there are some really authentic parts of it too, like flying in the bands from Germany. The town itself has a lot of German elements to it all year round since a HUGE population of Germans settled in CTX in the 19th century to the extent that there is a Texas German language (like Creole) spoken in the region.

It might be interesting also to note that if you go to Mexico there is a HUGE German population there and even a German private school in Mexico City. I lived with a German exchange student named Josi and she made friends with an elderly German woman who waved her down in our neighborhood. She gave us a tour of her house because it was designed in the shape of a wheel with an open garden in the center. But yes many Germans in TX but of course don’t always get Oktoberfest right 😅

so... Texas oktoberfest was started by the Germans who moved here, buuut that specific issue mightve been caused by some Americans who might have aligned more ideologically with your grandpa than mine... you know what I mean? that is an issue these days in the US

😳 You may need to contact the owner and let them know. You might then find out if they're doing it on purpose or laziness.
Keep us informed! I don't want to support the wrong Octoberfest.

My buddy lives in North Texas and took us to a small Oktoberfest weekend in Granbury hosted by the local German restaurant "Ketzler's"
10/10 the best German food ever, the owner is passionate about her food

Zur Zeit sind Freunde von uns mit ihrer Band in Oklahoma auf einem Oktoberfest und die machen definitiv die richtige Oktoberfest Musik. Falls Interesse besteht, schau mal nach "Wolpertinger Buam".

My great grandpa was the son of German immigrants in Central Texas, as was my great grandma. in the early 1900s he played Tuba in a band that played German polka music and folk music at octoberfest in New Braunfels.

The "music from the good old days" makes so little sense given that the German population in places like Fredericksburg and New Braunfels came there in probably the 1840s.

The central TX German settlements occurred in the first half of the 19th century, mostly from Bavaria and mostly around the 1830s after some conflicts in their home region. They were antislavery and there was a daily German language newspaper in Austin until the late 1930s. There’s still a handful of older folks whose first language was Texas German, but most of the families stopped speaking German in the late 1930s, on purpose.
