the Oxford comma is when you're doing a list and you put it before the and

It’s a comma before and when listing things (ex. Blue, orange, white, and yellow) the comma after white is the Oxford comma and some people don’t think it should be used

the oxford comma is like "1, 2, and 3" rather than "1, 2 and 3"

it's not, like, a fancy name for a comma or whatever, it's the name for an optional comma that basically no one ever uses

everyone should use the oxford comma because when we talk we have a small pause before we say and at the end of a list, therefore there should be a comma (i will die on this hill)

It’s just called a comma in elementary school bc it’s ALWAYS required while listing items in American English. For some reason some people like to exclude it in American even though it’s excluded in British English and now they wanna call it AI when it’s ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WRITING COMPREHENSION

Oxford comma comes before and "cake, cookies, and sprinkles" the Oxford comma would be the one between 'cookies' and 'and'. The normal comma is the one between 'cake' and 'Cookie'.

is the Oxford comma not the last comma that separates the last 2 items in a list? that comma specifically is the Oxford comma. people debate whether it's required but those who argue against it are wrong.

I know it's a joke, but I've always viewed it as a different kind of comma because of its specific use case.

Alex :
The Oxford comma dosnt have to be used so like the sentence is grammatically correct weather u put it there or not and it specifically the comma infront of an and (example with: me, myself, and I) (Example without: me, myself and I )both are correct but any other comma is not optional so if you said (me myself and I) then it would be wrong cuz you forgot the comma that has to be used to be correct

Okay so a comma is something there to make the sentence correct the Oxford comma is there when it technically doesn’t need to be but is better there

Finn McBurney :
Well Ella, to define the Oxford comma; say you needed to say “and” whilst describing multiple things. Ex. Apples, bananas, and oranges. Instead of saying apples, bananas and oranges. Because that would put the “bananas” and “oranges” as one entity in terms of sentence structuring. Another example would be: “The man collected many things such as wooden logs, teapots, and waffle irons.” (Quick authors note, it’s better than combining teapots and waffle irons. When describing different objects.)
