AuDHD here and I have found it helpful. Basically it’s giving myself permission to to focus on something else without guilt because if I can’t do anything about it, it’s not my responsibility/fault. Doesn’t always work mind you.

Yeah that sends me in a loop, or when people say “it is what it is” then that’s it they don’t discuss it further

AuDHD here, it's not worth putting energy into worrying about it if i can't change the outcome, so I don't. I just do my best to prepare for the fallout

Let’s say you walk into a room full of unfinished puzzles (literal puzzles), and are told to complete as many of them as possible. At some point you get really invested in one specific puzzle, but it’s just not clicking and it’s becoming very frustrating. And then, after a few minutes of you getting increasingly stressed trying to figure out this puzzle, the instructor tells you, “oh, right I should’ve told you… that *particular* puzzle that you’re working on is unsolvable. It’s missing pieces and you’ll never be able to finish it. Why don’t you move on to another one?” —in that moment you are being told A. That your initial stress and frustration wasn’t due to your own incompetency, but due to an unsolvable situation, B. That anyone would’ve had those same difficulties, because the task was impossible, so there’s no sense in dwelling on what you could’ve done differently, and C. There are other tasks out there where your skill and attention could be better utilized, so why waste any more time worrying about why an impossible puzzle wasn’t coming together?

it's also generally NOT TRUE! you can almost always do *something*, even if it doesn't directly fix the problem.

Question...why does it make it worse? Wouldn't it be worse to have a problem, with a solution you are able to do, but for some reason it's not working, and it works for everyone else?

I’ve managed to register it from the other perspective, there’s nothing you can do, ergo, you have already done all you can, it is no longer your responsibility.

It's the acceptance of not being able to change it, to accept your lack of control. I don't actually know how it helps because I'm not good at it. Then I'm like well point me in the direction of someone who can do something about it.

"there's nothing you can do about it so just don't stress!" actually the fact that i can't do anything about it is what's making me stress because i have to fix problems and me not being able to do anything to fix this one problem is creating a plethora of new problems that did not exist before so actually i would be less stressed if i could do something about it

Neurodivergent w anxiety I think of it like no matter what I do—if I stress, if I don’t, if I work really hard to change it—nothing will come of it. So I distract myself and try to act like it doesn’t exist or put in contingency plans instead

the main stress of multiple horror games and books and stuff is not being able to do anything like fnaf like u can’t move u can’t do shit to escape there’s just an incoming threat that u can wait to go away but like it will always come back and they usually understand that because i’ve found that a strangely high number of people in my circle rlly like fnaf like just horror tbf
