@kekecarnivore: Cast iron isn’t just cookware — it’s a legacy. ⸻ 📜 History: • Cast iron was first created in China around the 5th century BCE, used for weapons and cooking pots. • It became popular in Europe during the 16th century. • In America, cast iron skillets became household staples by the 18th and 19th century, especially prized for durability and heat retention. 🍳 Why cook on cast iron (3 reasons): 1. Retains and distributes heat evenly — perfect for steaks and eggs. 2. Adds trace amounts of iron to your food, supporting health. 3. Built to last generations — the more you cook, the better it gets. 🧽 Why clean + season (3 reasons): 1. Prevents rust and damage. 2. Builds up a natural non-stick layer (called seasoning). 3. Preserves flavor and keeps your skillet safe for daily cooking. Since moving to carnivore, I’m switching all my pots and pans to cast iron. Most of mine are made in the US, because not every skillet is created equal. Some imports mix in metals you don’t want in your food. I’ll share that story when I restore the vintage ones I bought online and on Facebook Marketplace. ⸻ What’s the one thing you’d cook in cast iron every day if you could? Heat that pan up on high and throw in a couple ice cubes. It’ll take everything right off.

Eve though I bought a new non stick… I’m liking my cast iron skillet more and learning the history and knowing how to take care of it. I’m actually going to buy more cast iron skillets but the more I learn about the different companies I have to be careful which ones I buy plus they are US made 🇺🇸

Yes I could add water and boil it but I wanted this to go faster but this was the easier and faster way to clean it without getting the pan too hot after you season it and get it hot and season it again before you cook- but I wanted to cook breakfast after this
