Cheaper over 20 years sure, cloud is more secure, if your house burns down you still got cloud storage. Your harddrives are gone and you’re electric bill is high

Hard drives degrade over time.As SSDs get cheaper and m.2s you can build these out to be faster and more capable yourself with an old PC, and a bunch of faster drivers

This is a good solution if: a) You're looking to detach from big companies like Google having your data b) You can cover the upfront cost c) you're diligent securing your data d) You're looking to own media like music, movies, books and be able to stream them

ok they talk about photos (which i won't deny a lot of people want that) but how's this work with games for gamers? I have over 200 games in my steam an psn combined, could it be used for that? or is it only stationary files?

400$ for the device, another 200$ minimum for the hard drives. Then power costs are probably 30$ per year. Compared to 60$ a year on the onedrive family plan with 6TB of storage. You will be even in 20 years only if the hard drives never fail.
