Know whose female lead did that better? Star Butterfly from Svtfoe. SPOILER : As soon as she learned the truth of her generation she immediately gave up her throne for the better of monsters and her people even though she lost the title of princess. That doens't mean she is perfect , but better than REGINA.

Honestly this is the problem with most modern fantasy manwha’s. They want to condemn the system of imperialism and monarchy while at the same time justifying why their main character is the exception. If they want to have royalty in their story that’s fine, but they cannot have talks on corruption/classisim if their MC benefits from it 😭😭 as the Irish once said “We will not blame him for the crimes of his ancestors if he relents the royal rights of his ancestors; but as long as he claims their rights, by virtue of descent, then, by virtue of descent, he must shoulder the responsibility for their crimes.” Which sums up this whole story. 😃☝🏻 wishing everyday Anita toppled that corrupt institution down smh

i love regina but there’s no escaping the truth: her writing squanders what could have been tremendous potential. she could have been written as a heroine forced to reckon with the bl-od-soaked privilege of her lineage to bear the guilt of her ancestors atrocities and to be haunted by the voices of the very victims her empire erased. instead her arc is reduced to a sanitized tale of virtue. it is not only poorly written but also symptomatic of the manhwa’s wider narrative blind spots. the issue is not regina alone it is the worldview the text insists we accept through her. rather than interrogating imperial power the narrative uses the fl to reinforce it. victims appear not as characters with agency rage or trauma but as props. their suffering is recycled into regina’s moral backdrop so she can shine as the merciful “kind-hearted” princess. this is not merely wasted character writing but a case study in how flawed ideology seeps into the bones of a story. contrast this with the manhwa "secret lady" which while imperfect treats class with greater sophistication. that manhwa explicitly depicts the upper echelons as pr-datory thriving on the misery of the powerless. more importantly its fl does not glide through privilege unscathed or unacknowledged. she names it. she admits she can sleep peacefully at night because she will not be dragged away like the poor. that is a self-aware recognition of the safety her position buys her. her ally even confronts her with this imbalance directly and she does not brush it aside. instead she leans into the discomfort and joins him in resisting the system that shields her. she also rejects the dogma that d-monizes magic as blasphemy despite the mortal risk such defiance invites. because she sees ghosts she herself lives under constant threat of discovery subject to the same stigma as the marginalized. this is admittedly only the bare minimum for progressive storytelling but at least it acknowledges systemic cruelty and forces its heroine to grapple with complicity unlike other manhwas. the entirety of season 2 focuses on the corruption of the upper class that was already introduced in season 1. it was always present and (1/2)

"I didn't realize there was a lady with a position higher than mine in this empire" girllll yeah your talking to her? Litterly should've and couldve been a princess/queen. the embodiment of the women with the highest position. It's funny how after she traveled back in in time and she looks at Anita all she sees in maid, witch, someone lowly and starts snapping back but it should be the reverse.

This is why i follow you lmao. If she was aiming to really make amends, even in a way that kept the monarchy in some form, if that was even remotely possible(it's not, imo, but that's a whole other topic), this would've been a collaborative process that both dismantled the harmful policies, made sure vulnerable populations didn't suffer during the process, and would've had the groups harmed in the name of the empire taking the reigns in what they wanted

craziest thing is that all criticism aside, this manhwa could be considered one of the more NUANCED on the topic, which is absolutely insane to me....then again, it's unfortunately unrealistic to expect an actual in depth manifesto from a hisromfan self fullfillment fantasy aimed at young girls esp w SK's misogynistic classist culture....

missed potential, the fact that the author could've write her being absolutely broken and torn about the situation with Anita. ngl i never expect much from Manhwas especially HisRoFan because of many of them have classist/misogyny undertones😭💔 but also, thank you for bringing this up, never really see any other people talk about it.

i'm on her side until the chapter of her meeting the mages, i dont like her response and how her conclusion is “dont be a pushover” like what? excuse me maam your ancestor literally just massacre all these women and yet they're asking NICELY and not choking you (cause i would 🥰)

Crazy how the punishment rlly is a punishment in a way, shes forced to go back and serve the empire that took evreything from her for the rest of her days, basscily going back to a slave like she once was, She's forced to be in the capital and the capital being a CONSTANT reminder to her, she's basscily trapped. It's so sad.

And I do think Regina as a character had the potential to be more, but the manwha’s story it’s self not wanting to pivot to much form the benifits of royalty for the main character meant that her character was kneecapped before she could take that final step in the condemnation of her ancestors.

It would've been cool if it was addressed how she like everyone else born into their privileged positions. They think like this and pull bs like this, it would have been nice if she had an arc dealing with this and getting better and over it. Like at least changing her way of thinking and stuff. I dropped it a while ago bc it didn't speak to me anymore but I was expecting something that a redemption arc😭.

Ts so real. I believe regina was like that because she was raised with that kind of mindset as a royal, but I also believe that her character could've been written better. In addition, she really lacked sensitivity and empathy for anita who lost everything as her family gained everything. It's sad, but I do think most royals and politicians had the same mindset as her
