@davidmarethouse: One of the many things I’ve learned with woodworking is you can’t skimp on the sanding. Sanding can be one of the most tedious steps, but also one of the most important to create a quality product. You’ve got to take your time with it. Since most of the wood I work with is all rough cut cedar, my wood planer certainly helps knock off the rough layer, but then I have to sand every piece three times to yield my desired results.
