#FANFIC #fightclub Long ah caption, but definitely worth the read if you’re interested! 🫶 All fake! Movie scenes and fictional scenarios. Bless. Okay, so I just rewatched Fight Club at AMC and obv my brain went straight to making an OC. You guys probably already clocked that I’m crazy about meta in fanfic. I love stories that comment on themselves in some way….and so I’m making yet another fanfic edit series with my favorite trope ever: real world woman ends up in her favorite fictional movie. I just can’t help it. It’s so fun. The OC’s name is Lucy and she’s a su*c*d*l film-bro esque waitress who lives in a rural area of Upstate New York. One night she decides to she doesn’t want to be anywhere anymore, being fed up with her loneliness, her job, and her stagnancy. But her plan fails, she survives, and she wakes up outside the bar from the movie (which happened to be playing on her old VHS player in her bedroom while she was making her attempt). At first the parking lot feels very liminal and scary, but she’s still so sick from what she’d taken that she’s pretty disassociated and the reality of her situation doesn’t hit her right away. She even thinks that maybe this is hell, however everything feels a way bit too real to be the afterlife. She has no money, no responsibilities, no social security card, and the feeling of being without anything is insanely freeing. In a way, she’s succeeded in what she’s intended to do, despite possibly having lost her mind. She is no longer her job. Or her apartment. Or anything. Since she doesn’t have anywhere to go, she walks around the city and steals food from variety stores and tries to find somewhere safe to sleep, but she always ends back up at that bar (not quite convinced that the characters of Fight Club are even real beyond this one liminal space, but wanting to find out). And eventually, she does see the Narrator. He ends up approaching her instead of the other way around, because she’s very conspicuously staring, and that’s how they meet. Something that was important to me when making this edit, because I take myself way too seriously lol, was that since it’s from Lucy’s POV, I didn’t want to edit in Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden, because Lucy only sees the Narrator as Tyler (the way anyone else in that world would). I think that would also add to the scariness of how somebody would feel actually meeting him, because they’d never know when the Narrator is Tyler and when he’s not. And obviously when he’s Tyler he’s far more dangerous. So that would be totally scary at times. But I added like three or four Tyler Durden “flashes” or “changovers” (like they have in the movie) into the edit so as to make up for the chilling lack of Brad Pitt. Despite everything, Lucy is also still very used to the normalcy of the real world. And I do think she’d be slightly afraid of Tyler/the Narrator, but not enough to leave, because she’s also fascinated by his realness as he’s one of her favorite characters from one of her favorite movies. And I think Tyler also has this cult-leader draw to him where he easily gets people to want his approval and want to do what he says. I think Lucy would be particularly susceptible to this, despite the entire time knowing what’s going on, because of the fact she sees him as a sort of idol of hers. Also because of her sadness and vulnerability. Another interesting concept that could be explored in a fic like this is how Tyler would react to Lucy clearly seeing him for who he is, because she’s seen the movie so she knows what he’s all about, and it might even scare him a little that she seems to know him. And btw I did think of a plausible in-character explanation for why Tyler would let her move into the house with “them”, but I don’t want to get into all that right now; this caption is getting crazy long as it is🙏😭. If you’ve read this far, I love you! ~~~ DT List: @rena @spencer 🦕 @Comfort_worlds ~~~ #edwardnorton #fightclubedit #filmtok
