@mateenq2: The engineering behind concrete bridges is simple as a concept but gets complicated when going in depth. This is because with concrete members it’s intuitive to place steel reinforcement or rebar where we’re expecting to see tensile bending stresses are straight up tension. This however does need to quantified as many stress checks need to be carried to ensure the beam can handle the prestressing as well as the forces from when the bridge is in service. There are methods such as debonding or even having steel strands at both top and bottom at the beam to help reduce the forces and stresses from the prestressing. #engineering #construction #structuralengineering #civilengineering #engineeringstudent

can u add metric unit, we can quickly imagine inch and feet, but not pound, its just too far to kN

Wont too much steel also make the steel too strong and wont yield, causing the concrete to fail sooner ?

Any idea how they design for fiber rebar? Is it economical at this moment in time?

So you want it to yield first

OK, long lengths are a problem so why can’t they be made in shorter lengths?. Then linked together

Technically prestressing strands are NOT reinforcement. They're not used for the same thing

Too much reinforcement is also bad, look up for under reinforced Vs over reinforced beam behavior (their stress strain curve) you'll be surprised, too much reinforcement and the concrete will fail before even the rebars will reach plastic deformation which is essential in RC design and behavior
