Some comments are quite extreme. Ellie, a young woman with Down syndrome, is not the sympathy vote. Can you see her happiness? Whose sympathy is she seeking? Saying she’s the token disabled person is discriminatory. This show represents the disabled community every year, with different disabilities being represented each year. Why not? It’s no different from having a mix of gender, culture, faith, ethnicity, age, sexuality. We say ‘be kind’. Why can’t we just be kind? Who is she affecting by being on a dance entertainment show? Nobody. If she were my child, I’d be proud to watch her enjoy it.
