I have a Corolla and I put peppermint on cotton pads in the interior and under the hood also I surround the car with rodent traps so far no issues.

In the US we have a spray product that is, I think, mostly mint oil that repels rodents. My dad used to have a farm and there were a lot of rats because of the cow feed. He bought a car and in like a weekend he had to take it in for repair of the whole injector harness. I told him, before driving home, get a bottle or two of this spray and SATURATE the wheel arches and tires and the ground around it with this stuff. Never had a problem after that.
