Many times people praise the polite and respectful nature of Japanese people, which is mostly true as I think in comparison to many countries Japanese etiquette is very good. However, customer service is not the same as how normal people act, and i think it’s unhealthy to generalise and stereotype a country based on shop staff or hotel concierge behaviour where they are paid to be nice to you. It’s better to make Japanese friends and then you can have a better understanding of how people think 💗😅 2. Do you enjoy cultural activities as well as shopping or theme parks? I am certainly guilty in the past of spending way more time shopping, or at Disney then appreciating the beautiful historic sights of Japan. Whilst there’s nothing wrong with enjoying those sides to Japan (as you can see from my page I love them!!) it’s also important to try and learn about Japanese culture and traditions if you can, even just visiting shrines is completely free and really fun ! No pressure to do so of course but I do think it would improve your trip 💕 3. Do you believe Japan is living in the future non ironically? I definitely have thought this in the past before moving to Japan, but the past couple years living here I discovered that it’s perhaps the opposite. Japan has beautiful old traditions like authentic cafes from the 60s, shrines that still look the same as they did hundreds of years ago even! - however when it comes to the rights of LGBTQ people, anti foreigner sentiment and women unfortunately Japan is still very old fashioned and needs improvement in this regard. 4. Are you able to talk openly about the negatives you’ve experienced in Japan or do you only see it as a perfect country? Many times when we first visit a country, it’s tempting to slander our home country and say Japan is so much better in comparison. I’ve definitely done this in the past about the uk, esp regarding how much more expensive it is to live in London. No place is perfect! . . . .
