@history_it_is: On September 20, 1988, Greg Louganis pulled off one of the most unforgettable comebacks in Olympic history. Just a day after hitting his head on the diving board during a prelim dive, he returned—stitches and all—to win gold in the springboard final. This made him the first man to win back-to-back Olympic golds in both springboard and platform diving. His courage, skill, and composure under pressure earned him a place among the greatest athletes of all time. Louganis later became an advocate for LGBTQ rights, sharing his story with the world. His legacy goes far beyond the diving board. #GregLouganis #OlympicLegend #Diving #Seoul1988 #LGBTQHistory
Damn, I remember when that happened. People were demanding that the pool be drained. He was thought of as being gay. At that time it was very different from today. People thought that he had AIDS and contaminated the pool.
