@abc: The HIV/AIDS crisis ignited a community movement of care, education and activism in Australia. In 1985, after the Hawke government encouraged grassroots groups to band together, the AIDS Council of NSW (ACON) was born. From safe sex campaigns in sex on premises venues, to handing out condoms at Sydney's Sleaze Ball, ACON was a lifeline for countless people.
