Yep nah. Looks? Well the anime was adapted a bit weirdly, since to be honest she looks mature, only she's very short. As for Rintaro, he confused her as a middle schooler since he only focuses on height (it was his trauma) and also he didn't have romantic feelings when he first met her. Those were developed as they got closer.

Thank you!!! Literally I was thinking the same thing. like he didn’t know if she was in middle school before he started falling for her, didn’t even ask. I hate that almost all anime, romantic stories, have an undertone of liking someone that’s younger than you or younger than you. Not that this isn’t a cute story, but still.

I think the height difference is part of the theme of the anime, which is basically people judge by appearances without even knowing, that’s why at the begging they say rintaro is tall and almost scary appearance, it’s about constrasting appearances
