@womenofvoy: What is the Mirena coil and how can it help with HRT? The Mirena is a small T-shaped intrauterine device (IUD) that sits inside the womb and slowly releases progestogen directly into the uterus. This makes it highly effective for contraception and also a valuable option as the progestogen component of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Here’s what menopause specialist Dr Tara Kumar shares about its benefits and drawbacks: ✅ Pros Protects the womb lining when used with oestrogen HRT Reliable contraception, useful if you’re still ovulating in perimenopause Helps with heavy periods, often making them lighter or even stopping them Fewer side effects compared with the pill, as the hormone works mainly in the womb Lasts 4–5 years once fitted, so no daily tablets needed Works as both contraception and the progestogen part of HRT ⚠️ Cons Irregular bleeding or spotting is common in the first few months Needs to be fitted by a doctor or nurse, which can feel uncomfortable or painful for some Rare side effects like mood changes, acne, sore breasts, or headaches Not suitable if you have breast cancer, unexplained bleeding, or certain womb conditions The Mirena coil is a versatile and effective option, but it won’t be right for everyone. A menopause consultation can help you decide if it’s the best choice for your needs. ✨ Share this post to raise awareness and support women considering their HRT options. #menopause #perimenopause #mirenacoil #HRT #WomenOfTikTok

AWFUL getting it in… worth it for 5 years of no periods and (so far) minimal peri symptoms. Docs should offer better pain relief/sedation.

Anyone anything good to say about Mirena, new comer here, my experience was good with my gp, she used nitrogen spray stuff to soften things up and it was over in 5mins. (I have to see in afew wks how things go down)
