I have a theory, only CLARICE would’ve been able to go in alone and take out bill. He had more than once chance to take her out but since she’s a woman he got caught up in “admiring” her like he does other prey. If it had been a male fbi agent going in alone, he would’ve gotten rid of him quick maybe?

Crawford calling her 'Clarice' and not 'Starling' is significant- he's calling her name, not as an agent, as a human. This harks back to Catherine Martin's mother using Catherine's name over and over again in the press appeal to humanise her to Bill

Also really loved Lecter’s escape leading up to Clarice cracking the case. It added an extra layer of suspense and made that final scene really satisfying

The juxtaposition scene of them ringing the different doorbells and realizing they’re both in different places is what makes the movie better than the book and one of the only instances of such.

as a woman, feeling constantly dismissed and objectified, this movie hit home so hard. I absolutely adore Silence of the lambs.

Even when she walks through the airport, all the men to turn & look at her, there’s loads of small bits in this movie when she’s made to feel like just a piece of meat. I love this movie, love Jodie’s performance, the intensity of the final act. So good.

Just want to add that a previous scene where she’s training and gets “shot”, also adds to the tension in the basement, this isn’t a training exercise, her life and Catherine’s are in real danger.

Interesting that some people don’t like the end of Silence of the Lambs, I wasn’t aware of that. It’s such a brilliant film. If it happens to be on tv I can’t bring myself to flick past it, I end up watching the rest of it.

The themes are set up so well, so quickly and clearly. From that early scene of her being the only woman in the elevator - to me, this is a film about how it feels to be a woman in a man’s world. My fave movie ever.

This movie is perfection! It’s one of my all-time favorite movies! I love how Clarice’s character is written so well, it’s a love letter to women’s empowerment. Not to mention, it was one of the only thrillers to get all the big nominations at the Oscars.

This is what common core English should be. Kids would actually have media literacy if they were able to relate to the content and understand the themes of what THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH. Movies and TV are just as intellectually relevant as any novel.

I read this book, by Thomas Harris, when I was 19yo. That basement scene was one of the few times I've ever been actively terrified while reading a book! I've read so many books and have yet to be scared to that level again! Fantastic book and movie!

End violence against women 🌍 :
I love the bit where she goes in the lift and you get the scale of how small she is and also where she says “go on now” and she has to say it twice with conviction so they take her seriously. Jodie foster must know what this feels like in real life, she’s incredibly intelligent and a member of MENSA 😎

Closing credits. The little girl on the pink bike just goes back and forth stuck in a pattern while the little boys play freely in the street. I always took that as the answer.
