The way you identify lab grown diamonds is that they are TOO perfect, the lack of imperfections and microscopic inclusions is the only way to tell. So they’re not just “as good” as mined diamonds, they are objectively better unless your criteria is based on suffering or marketing

diamonds are not rare, they are hoarded. Moissanite is literally stardust. STARDUST. I personally prefer sapphire but please get a lab grown!!

saying a lab made diamond isn't a real diamond is like saying an ivf baby isn't a real person

Lab diamonds aren't "artificial diamonds" they're just diamonds that were created by replicating the natural process in a controlled environment. Also diamonds aren't even rare. Buying a diamond is like buying a Corolla for 90K because you were told it's a collectors car, when in reality it's the most produced car ever.

on a geologic note, lab grown diamonds technically aren’t “real minerals” since they aren’t made by natural processes but if that small fact sways anybody towards preferring blood diamonds that’s ridiculous. lab grown over natural any day of the week!

I remember replying something like “if my partner buys me a blood diamond i’d break up with them” to the og post and people were actually threatening each other in my replies

the only truly ethical natural diamond is that one girl who she herself went to an abandoned mining site and spent DAYS trying to find one and eventually found it and that's gonna be her engagement ring diamond

Diamonds are also like not rare at all, it’s all just a marketing campaign. It’s so weird to care about what others want when it literally does nothing

and you can argue human effort still went into lab grown diamonds! scientists had to develop that process, and more human effort still goes into cutting the stone, designing the ring itself, polishing and setting the stone in the ring, etc. a lab grown diamond ring still has work and artistry put into it, but it’s less exploitative.

the only reason i would ever own a “natural” diamond is if it was in a piece of vintage jewelry. same as leather, it’s already made and isn’t actively contributing to someone’s current suffering

Lab grown diamond is more “real” than “real diamond” because these imperfections damage their purity.

Another thing is like, you can still spend like 50k on a lab diamond. It's just gonna be huge and have an ideal cut. So to me, even the (shallow, imo) argument that the price is what matters isn't very strong

You touched on this but they are chemically the same!! No reason NOT to get lab grown imo.

I wonder what country who’s number one export is diamonds even though they have no diamond mines would want to convince people to buy real diamonds

Same shit with the argument against lab grown meat. If it’s safe and tastes the same, why is it bad ?

Just bought an engagement ring so I feel like I can weigh in on this. Lab grown was the only option for me. It allowed for much more customization of cut, color, grade, and ring design. The only real stones it was realistic for me to get were very small, plus my future fiance did not want a diamond but an alexandrite which is a much rarer and, to me, prettier stone. Plus with what I’m saving on the ring I’m able to take us on a road trip to the Grand Canyon which matters much more than a conflict stone ever could.
