People never think of it from the side of protecting the immigrants or foreign workers.

You’re exactly right! Not only that, but Mexico asks USA citizens for 200-300k in savings to be able to apply for a NORMAL residency visa. It’s only fair honestly 🤷🏽♀️some of my family were complaining they he moved the visiting visa from $6 to $30, yet they don’t realize that visiting visa for USA citizens is actually $50 imposed from Mexico. It’s all gotta be fair and equal

A quick Google search will show you that there were many many companies who hired thousands of foreign workers well also laying off tens of thousands of US employees.

As someone that is in-house at a big tech company and have dealt with a lot of this - the 100k fee is not high enough. If it was 100k PER YEAR, that would help. Also, not applying it to current visa holders was a huge mistake. There are way too many of them here already.

So many people complains about wages but want to bring in people who accept working for way less which drives down wages.

I agree. The work visas are unfair to both the American workers and the foreign workers. This helps balance it out a bit better.

That is inaccurate. B1 visas are a contract and they can be here earning a wage that is set by the b1 visa program. If they quit or are terminated the employer has to pay for their flight home, just like they have to pay for their flight here. It’s highly watched by the department of homeland as well as the department of labor. The employer also has to provide housing.

Not only does the company pay them less, they hold the visas over their heads as a means of control to force obedience.

That’s true but there are loopholes to avoid the $100k. If they’re already here, they avoid the fee. Or they could use L1.

100k is still way too cheap, it should be closer to 500k, and off/near shoring should be corprate tax at 90% and not be deductible

You are fundamentally misunderstanding what H1B visas are for. It’s not for cheap labor, but for people who are very specialized and good at something. This visas are very limited as is, and companies can’t give many of them to begin with

This thought process isn’t horrible, just incorrect based on how H1B visas work. This will hurt America has the innovation and tech center of the world

Also, because their visas depend on continued employment, many salaried lower-paid visa workers often accept very long hours. Remaining U.S. staff often feel pressure to match those hours to avoid being seen as replaceable.
