I’ll almost 60. I remember interviewing a neighbor for a school project. He was in an Allied camp in Europe they feed them 1 potato a day, he survived the camp for 1.5 yrs. He was the happiest kindest man. My father was also the kindest man who fought in the Pacific at 17 front lines, he was a sniper. He hated guns & never wanted to speak of the evils of war.

How interesting! Side note: my mom is a WWII history enthusiast. She's also losing her vision and spends much of the day listening to YouTube videos. She's currently been watching a series of videos such as 'German Women POW's Were Surprised by the Smell of Bacon in U.S. Prison Camps' on a channel called Forgotten WW2 Archives. I don't know if the stories are true. Kinda wish I did know, though. She's becoming more gullible as she ages, if you know what I mean.

My Opa was in the resistance and he really should of written a book but the one thing he always said was that he should of done more, saved more people, spoken up more. Survivors guilt, he was a deeply religious man and I miss him everyday.

I spoke up for my disabled students and now I’m not a classroom teacher…but those kids have what they need. It is absolutely decimating for me, but I thought it would be better for the human race and my kids. Now I’m really scared all the time.

My therapist and I were just talking yesterday about speaking out despite possible consequences. As a member of more than 1 marginalized group currently being targeted, I refuse to stop speaking out. Living in fear is very unsettling and disempowering (which is what they want us to feel), but speaking out settles my mind and body. I will not go quietly. I will not go without a fight. I will not run.

I had a HY prof too! he was all in until after the war (which he fought in) when he reckoned with everything and did a 180. he was passionate about never forgetting and never again.
