A three-year-old Black soccer player named Nevada has gone viral after his family revealed that police were called to a youth soccer match in Winter Park, Florida, following complaints about his performance. Nevada was playing in an i9 Sports youth league against children around five years old when the incident occurred. His family revealed that some parents of opposing players were unhappy because the toddler repeatedly kept possession of the ball and outperformed the other children. Videos shared by the family show Nevada displaying his soccer skills on the field, while footage from the incident shows his parents speaking with police officers. His father questioned why law enforcement had become involved, saying they called the police on a three-year-old because he had the ball for too long. Nevada’s mother also defended her son, saying he was simply playing soccer while adults gathered to discuss him. The family alleges that the league subsequently barred them from returning to the field and that police escorted them away. They also reportedly received a refund for their fall-season registration. The incident has sparked debate online, with many questioning whether a young child should face such treatment for excelling at a sport. #viral
